Do We Need Evil?

September 14, 2006

A question that came up in sem skills was do we need evil in our society to regulate behavior? That question really makes you think. I remember one time i went to Syria, it seemed like everything was quiet and not many problems that there are in the U.S, and i think that is because they believe that there is evil in society. Now, they are very religeous people, but justing knowing that there is evil makes people behave more in my opinion. Now, would this work in America. As we know, evil can be assosiated with Satan, bad behavior, or just cruel behavior. I’m not going to incorporate religeon in this response because i don’t think that “type” of evil would work in america because of all the different religeons and cultures. I think a big problem is what is evil, and how does the word “evil” control peoples behavior? All very tough questions, but i don’t think that we should have evil in our society to regulate behavior. I just don’t think that it will work with how advanced our world is now. We just have so much science and technology that every little problem with a person can be diagnosed, so defining someone as evil wouldn’t work. Also, evil can’t regulate behavior because people all have different meanings and levels of evil. Someone may think that hitting someone is evil, while someone else thinks that it isn’t. In my opinion, it is much to complicated to regulate behavior with evil, and that we should just let all these things be regulated by the law.

Bible School

September 12, 2006

Yeah, so this Bible stuff in school thing was interesting. But the thing is, for someone like me, the Bible means nothing to me, i’m not Christian, i’m muslim. If that is the case, then i can do whatever i want because i wouldn’t really care if the bible says it is good or bad. That is the flaw of using religeon in school, you have to incorporate all religeons into the school for it to work, including athiesm. That would be impossible, so you might as well not use religeon at all.

Evil >:)

My favorite definition of evil is morally something bad, wrong, or wicked. This is probably the broadest term, but it is my favorite because it is straight and to the point. Now doing something wrong doesn’t mean answering 6+8=390, but doing something morally wrong, like doing drugs and bullying people. Obviously doing something bad is like throwing a swrew driver at some kid on a bike or something and wicked could be like putting a dead bug in someones food. I also think that an example of evil in modern times is what we are doing in Iraq, just there allowing our soldiers to get killed and have innocent Iraqis killed. An example of evil from history would be the atomic bombs thrown on Hiroshima and Nagasaki because they were unneccesary and they killed thousands of people and also caused sickness’s to happen, and obviously the Holocaust was another example of evil.
